The Lawrenceville School hosted the potentially record-breaking chocolate custard pie fight at a campus field — fittingly called “The Bowl” — yesterday afternoon, hoping not only to earn a spot in the Guinness World Records, but also to raise money for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).

Armed with 1,541 confectionery bombs, the battle — fought by the school’s students and faculty — raged well over five minutes. Participants paid $4 each for the chance to pummel their peers with the tasty weapons, and, combined with other donations from campus organizations and independent contributors, the fight generated around $10,000 for TASK.

“This was just to have a lot of fun, give back to the community and raise school spirit,” said Nathan Brody, a senior at the school and the school president, who helped organize the event. “I think everyone had a blast today.”

Dennis Micai, executive director of TASK, said that $10,000 could pay for a week’s worth of food for the soup kitchen. He said he was pleased and thankful to The Lawrenceville School for its donation.

Custard pies were flying at a New Jersey prep school Thursday as it attempted to break a world record.
More than 400 students and staff at the Lawrenceville School turned out for an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the biggest custard pie fight, and they are pretty confident they succeeded.
