Reflective Flow World Largest Chandelier Guinness World Record set by Qatar

Qatar achieved a Guinness World Record last night, as the incredible ‘Reflective Flow’ was unveiled at the Al Hitmi building on the Corniche and declared the largest chandelier in the world.

The chandelier, comprising 2,500 different blocks of light and weighing 19,900kg, comprehensively beat the previous record of 3,000kg, and according to a witness, “put the building on the world map.”

The artwork features groundbreaking technology, and changes colour depending on the ambience in the building and the moods of the people inside. ‘Reflective Flow’ was designed by Beau McClellan.

The Scottish-born designer told Gulf Times that last night’s launch represented a “very

special moment” for him and his team. “It’s bizarre having people in here to see it,” he said, adding, “I am really proud this has worked out better than I could have imagined.”
“I knew how it would look. Now everyone can see what was inside my head,” he said and revealed that his visualisation for the piece was one of the most challenging aspects of the past two and a half years of work.

Hitmi al-Hitmi hoped the creation would add something new to Qatar. As guests looked on at the beautiful piece of lighting, a special guest, Ghulam Shabbir, one of the tallest men in the world expressed his appreciation. An official of the Guinness World Record deciding body then presented a certificate to al-Hitmi and McClellan for their achievement.
