SALESBURY Cricket Club's Jason Rawson was left bowled over by his own achievement.
Jason completed a world record attempt sponsored by Capita by finishing the world's longest bowler's run-up.The run-up, at 1.6 miles long, began from the Shajan Indian Restaurant, on the A59, up to the Ribchester Road ground where the umpires and players had been ready in position for 20 minutes.
But, prior to the run up, Jason had also run a marathon from Blackpool promenade to the Shajan in awful conditions.
The monumental effort was achieved in an impressive three-and-a-half hours helping raise funds for the newly-promoted Ribblesdale Senior League club.
Ian Riley faced the record-breaking delivery, scrambling through for a leg-bye having survived a lung-busting LBW appeal at the start of an eventful over.
Riley went on to smash successive boundaries before Peter Blackman was caught out on the final ball of the over.
The 20/20 match was abandoned after just six balls due to the persistent rain, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the crowd who had come to watch.
Afterwards, an exhausted Jason said: "I'd mentioned to our chairman about running a marathon to raise some money for the club and then Graham Campbell came up with the Guinness World Record idea.
"I really didn't think I was going to make it at one point because I'd hit a wall after about the 18-mile mark.
"I've done my bit for the club today, but I couldn't have done it without the support of the club and particularly my wife, Liz."
Club chairman Andrew Green said: "It's a great day for the club and I hope it has helped put us on the map.
"Jason has done really well and I'd like to thank everybody who has helped out as well as those who are here supporting him today."
