According to super sports car manufacturer Lotus, their new vehicle is the cleanest in the world. The bold claim, for the new high-performance Elise model is sure to interest car rental users who are constantly on the lookout for ways to contribute to keeping the environment green.
Eco-friendly vehicles have boomed in the hire industry in recent years, with consumers keen to lower their carbon footprint and also save valuable finances on the reduced fuel costs that are associated with hybrid technology. While a super car may not be the first choice for saving the planet, the new Lotus Elise claims to have the lowest CO2 output – at just 149g/km – of any vehicle in its category that has similar performance statistics.
The rear-wheel drive roadster makes an attractive alternate to the gas-guzzling competitors in the super car range, not to mention providing the ultimate driving thrill of being behind the wheel of a truly iconic vehicle. The engine has been downsized from the previous 1.8-litre model to a new, sleeker 1.6-litre unit. Despite the downsizing, Lotus claims that the 134 brake horse power of the former is able to be replicated by the latter.
With an aerodynamic, lightweight chassis, Lotus claims that the Elise can reach 60mph in six seconds, and can reach a maximum speed of 127mph. The combined cycle engine also keeps fuel consumption to a relatively low 45mpg.
