The Angels home opener was a snuggie fest as they attempted to beat the Guinness World Record of the largest gathering of people wearing blankets of the same color. The sellout crowd of over 43,000 were prompted to wear a red Matsui 55 blanket (or snuggie) during the 5th inning for 5 minutes. After this time, a Guinness official made the announcement on the field that they had indeed set the world record.
Unfortunately the Guinness hype was not enough to take out the Minnesota Twins at the Angels' home opener. The Twins beat the Angels 5-3.
A dark cloud must have been cast over Anaheim tonight as both of its teams fell short of big wins. The Anaheim Ducks were eliminated from the playoffs tonight as the Los Angeles Kings barely defeated them 5-4 with a final shootout after a 4-4 tie.
Unfortunately the Ducks elimination was determined just minutes before the shootout began, as the Colorado Avalanche also beat Vancouver against a shootout.
The Los Angeles Kings will finally find themselves at the playoffs again after failing to make it since 2002. On the other hand, the Ducks have been playoff regulars since 2004.
The Freeway Faceoff is a fan rivaling favorite that has resulted in the Kings beating the Ducks 4 out of the 6 freeway games played.
The big goals for the Ducks were executed by right wing Teemu Selanne. These goals represented Selanne's 604th and 605th career goals. Each goal made is crucial as this is said to be Selanne last NHL season.
