An international famed cricket statistician, Sudhir Vaidya, who has been compiling cricket statistics since 1957, has found his name recorded in the latest edition (March 2010) of Limca Book of Records.
Limca Book of Records is a record book of Indian origin. First published in 1990, the 20th edition of this book was released by Amitabh Bachchan last year. The Limca Book of Records is published with the patronage of Coca-Cola India which manufactures the soft drink called Limca. Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev are the other two Indian cricket-greats have found their names in the earlier editions of this book.
"It gives me a great pleasure that my name has been included in the 2010 edition of the Limca Book of Records for my vast compilation of cricket records and statistics during the last 50 years. An extract from the book covering my contribution and also a certificate issued by Limca Book of Records, were received to me on Saturday,” said Vaidya.
"Sudhir Vaidya of Thane, Mumbai has been maintaining a hand-written collection of cricket scorecards and a compilation of cricket statistics for Tests, One Day Internationals, Twenty20 and domestic cricket since its inception of three forms of cricket. His collection contains over 1800 Tests, 2600 ODIs, 47 Twenty20 and over 5000 cricket scorecards.
Vaidya's cricket records and collection (spreaded in about 150 files, registers and bound books in handwritten and computerized sheets), are of immense help to a variety of cricket enthusiasts like cricketers, umpires, administrators, journalists, government officials, and all others in a variety of ways. He has been the official statistician for the Indian cricket board.
He has assisted radio/television cricket commentators, in his capacity as a cricket statistician at the time of 140 live Tests, one-day internationals all over the world and domestic first class cricket matches of the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup tournaments in India since 1973.
Production of a film on Vinoo Mankad was entirely based on the book written by him on the cricketer. The book also won a prize in the second national competition of published literature on sports and games, organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 1972.
