KK Thomas, an alumnus of BVB College of Engineering and Technology (BVBCET) here, has entered into `Limca Book of Records for developing an interesting mathematical skill.

He has demonstrated his skill of extracting square roots of 10-digit numbers in 20 to 30 seconds and cube roots of 15-digit numbers in 40 to 60 seconds without using, pen, paper, calculator or any other aid. Acknowledging his feat, `The Limca Book of Records' granted him a certificate recently.

What is interesting is that Thomas developed the methodology when he was 60 years. This technique is not illustrated in any mathematical journal. He has developed innovative methods of carrying out addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

IISc, IIT and the London Mathematical Society have backed his claims. Born in Karwar, he was educated in Dharwad and Hubli. He worked for various private firms in India and the Gulf.

The principal, staff, students of BVBCET have congratulated him, a release from the college said.
