THE Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is set to be the scene of a Guinness World Records bid on Thursday when 300 volunteers blow vuvuzelas simultaneously for a full 30 seconds.

This will happen three minutes before the kick-off of the Vodacom Challenge clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The first 20000 fans to enter the stadium will receive a complimentary limited edition Vodacom Guinness World Record vuvuzela.

“Vuvuzelas capture the spirit of soccer in South Africa. We are proud to be associated with this world record attempt endeavour,” said Vodacom brand and marketing managing executive Enzo Scarcella.

The world record attempt will be monitored by Guinness World Records (GWR) adjudicator Rob Malloy, who will fly into the country from GWR head office in London.

Amakhosi and the Buccaneers will be bringing quality football to the new stadium and will battle it out for a spot in the final of the Vodacom Challenge against visiting Manchester City.

Fans can expect to see their Bafana Bafana Confederations Cup heroes who could take to the field for the first time since the Festival of Champions competition ended last month.

Chiefs are expected to bring goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, while Pirates could include Teko Modise, Benson Mhlongo, Innocent Mdledle and Katlego Mashego, who have been rested since the conclusion of the tournament.

The Vodacom Challenge opened on Saturday when Pirates beat City 2-0 at Polokwane‘s Peter Mokaba Stadium. Tonight, Chiefs face City at Durban‘s Absa Stadium.

Almost 15000 tickets have already been sold for the 48000- seater stadium.
