World's First Zero Gravity Wedding New York

These Brooklyn lovebirds are head over heels. Noah Fulmore and Erin Finnegan Saturday became the first people on the planet to tie the knot while weightless. "I just got married in zero gravity," a thrilled Fulmore, 31, said after marrying his girlfriend of seven years.

"It was outstanding," Fulmore said. "It was everything I think we were hoping for."

The couple took off from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral with a small group of friends and photographers. They were in an aircraft owned by the Zero Gravity Corp. - the only federally approved provider of commercial weightless flights.

Space tourist and adventurer Richard Garriott, the son of an astronaut, officiated at the ceremony, and the couple exchanged vows, smooched as husband and wife and tossed the bouquet to the bridesmaids while literally walking on air.

"It was awesome," said Finnegan, 30, who works in animation production. "It's a very physical experience. My heart was beating a lot, but I couldn't tell if it was because I was nervous or because of the zero gravity."

The pair of science-fiction addicts came up with the idea after going to countless conventional weddings. Weddings on the ground were apparently too tame.

The zero-gravity flight, which lasts 90 minutes, makes 16 roller coaster-type dives, known as parabolic arcs.

Each lasts up to 30 seconds, with the jet plummeting from 36,000 to 24,000 feet before climbing back up, which allows passengers on the Boeing 727 to experience weightlessness.

Finnegan wore a multilayered white gown and Fulmore donned a tuxedo with tapered tails so his coat didn't float up, up and away.

The couple, who live in Williamsburg, had been planning their big day for months, but there were still a couple of moments they almost started spinning out of control.

"If you turned the wrong way or didn't center yourself when zero gravity kicked in, you couldn't tell which way was up or which way was down," said Fulmore, a legal secretary.

After the wedding, the newlyweds headed for a reception at Kennedy Space Center and will be going to Disney World today for their honeymoon.
