No sign of rain for this year’s charity car wash.

Joe Paladino, assistant manager of Carstar Collision Centre, was helping wash some cars with volunteers for the Carstar Soaps it up fundraising event on Saturday. Paladino said raising money has been difficult in the past due to poor weather conditions.

"The last few years have been pretty bad because we have been rained out but today looks good. Hopefully we can donate a couple thousand (but it is) hard to say," said Paladino.

He and over 140 Carstars centres in Canada and in the U.S. are trying to set a world record for the largest car wash. Money raised will go towards helping find a cure for cystic fibrosis.

"We’ve been putting this car wash on for cystic fibrosis for the last six years. This year is different because we are affiliated with all the Carstars across Canada to try and set a Guinness World Record."

The money raised in the car wash will help support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. There are 85 locations across Ontario with some of them being London, Chatham, Orangeville, Guelph, and Sudbury.

Gloria Houghton, president of the Thunder Bay Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, said they are hoping to get 200 cars.

"(If we get a minimum of 200 cars) that would be a $1,000 at this location," said Houghton. "In the last six years Carstar has raised over a million dollars."

Tickets were $5 and were available at the Carstar on 11th Avenue. It is not yet known if Carstar reached their goal and made it into the record books.
