A 21-feet high Rudraksha Shivling, claimed to be the world's highest Rudraksha lingam, was inaugurated today at Dharampur town of Valsad district in South Gujarat.

Batuk Vyas, a narrator of Shiva Purana Katha and an expert on Rudraksha, claimed to have set a record of sorts by making world's highest Rudraksha lingam. He said the temple authorities have applied for Limca Book of World Records certificate.

Talking to UNI, Mr Vyas said, ''The Shivling will be kept open for 15 days for the devotees to have 'darshan' from today.'' ''Devotees from different parts of Gujarat and all over the country are expected to throng the venue tomorrow on the occasion of Shivratri. We are expecting more than 2,00,000 devotees during the next 15 days,'' he said.

The Shivling, with a diameter of 25 feet, is made over a steel frame with Rudraksha on vertical lines in thread. The construction of the Shivling started from December 6, 2008.

Raj Ashok Shetty, an observer from Limca Book of Records, visited the place and inspected the claimed statistics of the Shivlinga to add them in the next issue of the record book.
