World Largest Cappuccino Record set by Baristas Prague

Baristas in Prague brewed the world's largest cup of cappuccino on Saturday, drowning out previous records with their 2009-litre hot drink.

80 coffeemaking experts from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Italy, France and Costa Rica spent hours brewing some ten thousand cups of espresso and frothing milk for the five-hour record attempt.

The Czech Coffee School spent over 20,000 Czech Crowns (8,000 euros) building a specially-designed 2117-litre coffee cup for the attempt, with a second layer to keep the jumbo drink hot.

Italian-born organiser Roberto Trevisan said it was vital that quality was maintained, and that the coffee tasted just as good as it's smaller counterpart.

The previous record, for a 1500-litre cappuccino, was set by Italian Ettore Diana. Trevisan said Diana was eager to help smash his own record in Prague.

''Yes, I am Italian, but I don't think borders are so important. Most important is the friendship and the art of making coffee. Ettore Diana will be the world record holder for another couple of minutes. Now he is here with us helping us to overcome his own record," he said.

Diana said he was determined to go bigger and better in the future. ''I think one year I will prepare one cappuccino 2500 litres," he said.

But Saturday was all about this record-breaking coffee, which is officially recognised and will be published in the Guinness Book of World Records.

''I can confirm this is a new world record, because the cappuccino has 2009 litres and was prepared in record 2117 litres cup. This means two new records already," said Record Registrator, Miroslav Marek. The happy participants tasted the world's biggest cappuccino and
celebrated their success by dancing around the record cup.
