Youtube - World Biggest Video Sharing website celebrate its Fifth Anniversary

YouTube, the number one video sharing site in the matrix that is the 'www' has yesterday turned five years old but it didn't party the night away as it also announced that it has to be alert in order to handle the over 2 billion views coming in daily.

Launched in beta form in May 2005, YouTube has quickly grown to become the video streaming service of choice for regular users although Google, who acquired the site in late 2006 for $1.65 billion, has been pushing to distribute professional content through it, the latest move in that direction being made this year through the enabling of video rentals.

To properly celebrate its fifth anniversary YouTube has made this video below and has launched the  YouTube Five Year channel which features clips with people "describing how YouTube has changed or shaped their lives."

Top 10 All Time Hits Youtube Videos

YouTube has come to define the era of online video, so let's take a look at their most popular youtube videos of all times. We first did this list in August 2007, at which point Evolution of Dance by comedian Judson Laipply was number 1 with nearly 56 million views. The next update was September 2008, when Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend pop music video was number 1 with 103 million page views (although commenters argued that it may have gamed the system). In January 2010, Charlie bit my finger - again ! was number 1, with 148 million views.


Our latest update shows that Lady Gaga has made a big impact in 2010 on YouTube, with 2 new entries into the top 10 - including the number 1 video of all time! Perhaps a sign of the times that she shunted Susan Boyle out of the top 10. Also, for the first time, all 10 videos in this list have over 100 million views. Here is the top 10, as at May 2010:
